A trip to the depths of Middlesborough has never presented a friendly encounter. Instead expect to be thrown into the Furness; games get feisty and spirits sore. While we knew what to expect, the drilled Marton unfortunately put early pressure on JPC with well worked goals. While it’s best not to discuss these, lets move on to the end of the game. A shining moment was when Fowler decided to show us his best Tom Daley, diving arms first toward the green (shout out to Rio) surface. The umpires were equally impressed, and very quickly awarded five (minutes on the bench). Matt decided he wanted to congratulate his buddy, and asked the referee if he could join him.
While this game had difficult times, and some minor cracks were seen in our performance under heat from the red hot Furness, we never completely melted, and actually formed impressively to slot home an excellently work team goal. An aerial from Duffy was sent over to Allen who utilised an exquisite first touch to knock the ball into Clarke’s path. Rounding the dumbfounded defence, Clarke drilled the ball between goalkeeper and CBs for Robertson to slide in and slot the ball home in the back post on the reverse.
In all, moments to remember and forget, but a stepping stone to greater things, I am sure.
