The Men's 1s made it 2 wins from 3 with a 2-1 win in a tightly contested game against Tynedale at Fortress Heaton.
After a promising start Dan Clarke edged the Jesmond boys ahead - firing low and hard into the bottom corner from the edge of the D. The 1s were unable to turn their promising passing into more goals.
The second half began in a similar vein with a series of chances going begging. As is so often the case offensive profligacy was punished as Tynedale drew level with a well placed drag flick. With fifteen left everything was to play for in an increasingly physical contest, but it was the home team who were able to find the decisive moment at a short corner. Craig Duffy injected to Andy Mathers whose initial shot was saved, Dan Clarke reacted quickest scoring powerfully from short hand.
There was time left for a bit more drama. Tynedale pressed robustly towards the Jesmond goal. For the second week in a row Jesmond saw a goal bound shot blocked by a foot on the line, this time however the clock was awarded. With 2 minutes left Jesmond spurned the chance to pull further ahead, Stephen Robertson 'unfortunate' to not connect properly with his effort.
With one last attack repelled the final whistle came with Jesmond victorious, moving on to 6 points ahead of a run of tricky away games. A special word for league debutant and man of the match Matthew Nicholson - a composed performance and testament to the promise of our youth system to bring through quality players, the first of many to come over the next few seasons - thanks to Sally and Mathers for all your efforts with our juniors.
