Immense

Striving to repeat the performance that was produced against Newcastle Uni 3s the men's 1s this time took on Newcastle Uni 2s at home.

After some close play to start the match JPC began to get the upper hand in the first half and create some chances. Euan Stenhouse collected the ball twice on the edge of the D and put good balls across, only for the chances to be missed... If only Euan squared it every week...

Fantastic high press by the team caused Uni to be under constant pressure, the defense never looking comfortable on the ball. Defensively George Moore, Henry Mullen and Simon Baker showed excellent form, meaning the Uni had done nothing to test the goal the entire first half.

As the first half was drawing to a close Dan Clarke won the ball in the middle of the pitch and slipped it to Stephen Robertson who attacked down the left. Drawing the defense he fired the ball across the D to find Steven Allen alone infront of the keeper. After a great touch on the reverse he slotted it home into the corner of the goal. 1-0 JPC at half time and it could have been more.

Stephen and Jonny filled in for the absent Nicholas Heyward for the half time team talk and JPC were ready for the second half. Straight from the start JPC looked threatening and despite some shocking play for their centre forward (emulating a young Joe Root on the sweep shot) threatened the goal.

Uni began to play themselves into the game and put the JPC under pressure. A fantastic double save from Jonny Greenshields kept the score at 1-0, even taking one for the team in the process. His fertility doctor will not be pleased.

With tension and tempers mounting JPC held on with great defending and link up play from George Darling and Mathew Nicholson. Craig Duffy was imperious in the middle, despite some interesting stick tackled towards the end.

With cries of "one goal and they are broken" from the uni boys it was infact Jesmond who took their chance and extended their lead. Dan Clarke smashed the ball into the D for an onrushing Michael Davison to clip into the corner, 2-0!

JPC put everything into defending the last 10 minutes of the game. With 5 left Michael was fouled in his own half. Quickly he aerialed it over the top to Euan Stenhouse to run through, squaring it to Andrew Cockerill, the Uni defense parted like the Red Sea in a huge pile up, while the proverbial Moses himself Andy sauntered through to slot the ball into the goal. 3-0 and a good win and clean sheet.

A fantastic team effort and well deserved 3 points! Great job lads!
