JPC Mens 2s started their league campaign today with a home game against Stockton. JPC lost the toss but were allowed the push back. Play started off well very fluidly being worked around in the midfield and using the wide wingers and defenders. JPC dominated the first 15/20 mins of the half with some great play and great pace and determination working the wings and challenging the Stockton Half.
Nick Green attached the edge of the D from the left side, beet his man and slotted the ball into the far pass to put JPC up. Stockton got one back just before half time despite continued pressure against their attack and looking very composed on the ball. Great link up play between the the midfield and Matt George upfront who stepped in nicely to take the CF role.
Pressure was maintained with us working the wings well between Andy Cockrel, Phil Kelly and Nick Duffy.
At half time the it was clear the team had been putting in a good deal of effort and there were only positives to mention, but we came out trying to focus on maintaining our shape a bit more through the half.
JPC managed to get a good shot off from the Short Corned which nipped just wide of the post 6 inches off the floor.
Unfortunately, Stockton made the most of their short however which they converted after JPC we penalised from breaking early from the previous short.
Pressure was on to try and get one back and JPC pushed on until the end in what was a well fought game which was played in great spirit between boths sides who both wanted to steal the win off each other.
Game finished 2-1 to Stockton but JPC had many a positive to take away and many new prospects to bolster our ranks.
